"It may be paradise... but it's no vacation."

    REVIEW

When one of four couples decides their relationship needs to be worked on, they convince the other couples in the group to go along on a holiday retreat. They figure that they'll have nice time in the islands and are unaware that the retreats exercises are not optional and that their supposedly strong relationships may not be. Amusing comedy isn't anything that hasn't been done before. It was cute but I was pretty much scripting it as it went along. Give me the set up and I figured out where it was going. It was okay. For me the film makes the revelation that I've lost any desire to see another Vince Vaughn film. He's good but he's awfully one note, with his goofy macho shtick becoming tired rather quickly thanks to its over use in so many other comedies. Overall the movie is funny enough to try, but not funny enough to warrant anything other than cable.

Couples Retreat is a comedy centered around four couples who settle into a tropical-island resort for a vacation. While one of the couples is there to work on the marriage, the others fail to realize that participation in the resort's therapy sessions is not optional. Couples Ret...( read more)reat is like a romantic comedy but without all the romantic stuff, well maybe a little bit of romance at the end but that's it. It has many funny moments. The locations are wonderful all the landscapes are fantastic. The cast is really good, Vince Vaughn still got the necessary to make people laugh, Jon Favreau is also very funny in this movie. Kristen Bell, Kristin Davis and Malin Akerman all three with very decent performancesand the one thet steals the show is latin actor Carlos Ponce with his performance of yoga instructor, he was hilarious. To conclude, Couples Retreat is a movie with the only purpose of entertaining, and I think it accomplishes it very nice.

it has its jokes, but nothing great. I expected more. but still ok 2 watch, i'd rent it.

It was funny, but the ending was just kinda...blah. Not really sure what I was expecting, but it kinda just ended!

Not very realistic or relatable. But slightly more relatable for couples to watch rather than singles. Beautiful scenery and beautiful people is all this really offers. It didn't make any sense how Shane's ex-wife showed up on the singles side of the island to renew their marr...( read more)iage. I didn't care for the guitar hero battle at the "Ponderosa." The way all the couples renew their marriages at the singles mixer is cheesy. Well, the couple played by Vince Vaughn and Malin Akerman were slightly less cheesy than the others. But then the movie topped off all that cheese with more cheese. Jean Reno as Marcel does a rip off of the Wizard of Oz being revealed behind the curtain and passing out some fluffy philosophy and token "animal spirit" gifts to each couple.

this film is definetly different and amazing

Easily entertaining, and instantly forgettable. Vince Vaughn leads a supremely talented cast in a movie that looks great, but seems like it was meant to be more. By that I mean that while the movie is rated PG-13, I get the sense it was originally intended to skew more into adult...( read more) humor, and come out as an R rated feature. Still, there's some big laughs here, mostly provided by Vaughn, whose ability to deliver deadpan dialogue is unmatched in modern Hollywood. His friends, played by Jason Bateman, Faizon Love, and Jon Favreau each get their fair share of laughs, and each actor gets his dramatic moment before the film's end. The Bahama setting isn't the only gorgeous thing in this movie. The wives are played by three SMOKIN' HOT actresses, Kristen Bell, Kristin Davis, and Malin Akerman, who may have the most hypnotic eyes in Hollywood. The movie falls short in its supporting characters that comprise the island resort staff. They are all meant to be quirky, but not one of them comes off as a believable character. However, the two kids that play Vaughn's young sons are great, and steal the short scenes that they have, especially the youngest son. You'll never look at hardware store toilets the same way again. I again think the humor could've pushed the boundries a little more, and of course there are no surprises at the end, when it comes to the characters and their relationships. Still, it's a fun movie, with some decent laughs, and gorgeous scenery. Oh, and the island setting looks good too.

"Couples Retreat" is neither funny nor honest. The exact opposite of a retreat, it's merely exhausting.

Couples Retreat is a comedy of exhaustion. But it is the comedy itself, in both concept and execution, that seems tired. full review
