I reallly liked it! I think this was return 2 form for Micheal Mann. The acting was great as well as the characters they were playing. I just felt like something was missing though within the story, I hope there a longer cut on DVD!

The beauty of Johnny Depp's body of work is his insistence on playing flawed, tormented souls and this movie's no exception. Flawlessly choreographed action sequences shot on Sony's F-23 cameras - the future of digital cinematography, a well paced script (though it lags a bit in ...( read more)the 2nd act), an awesome supporting cast (both Bale and Cotillard). This is a gangster movie with heart; my favorite Michael Mann film by far.

I thought Public Enemies was a great movie. I love period history pieces, and I have always been a fan of the gangster/crime movies. I knew John Dillinger's story, so I knew how the story would pan out. But, that didn't effect my experience seeing this film, or the fact that I ap...( read more)preciated the movie. I knew what would happen when I went to see Titanic, but it was the story that captivated me.
This movie is not for people who don't like history, or can't sit through a long film. It was 140 mins. But, Michael Mann did a good job with this one.
The casting in this film was brilliant. Johnny Depp has a prodigious amount of talent, when it comes to the craft of acting. So, I knew he would be amazing as Dillinger. It doesn't hurt that he is blistering hot and plays that bad boy roll so well, it brings the ladies to their knees.
Christian Bale is another savory character, and someone's who's strength in acting I've admired, since he was Patrick Bateman in An American Psycho. I appreciated his role as Melvin Purvis, although his voice I found to be a little off putting. It was certainly less disturbing than the Batman growl, so I was able to get passed it.
Marion Cotillard is an exotic beauty, and she was mesmerizing to watch as Billie Frechette. Anyone could see how Dillinger easily fell for her. Her performance broke my heart.
I loved that they had so many well known actors playing bit parts in this film : Stephen Dorf, Channing Tatum, LeeleeSobieskie, Billy Crudup, and Giovanni Ribisi. Kudos to Mr. Mann and his casting crew for that.
If you love a bit of history and a good period piece, or the rush of a good gangster/crime film, you should definitely put Public Enemies on your list.

A spectacular masterpiece no questions asked. It's American Gangster meets The Untouchables. It's the best, most detailed and most constructed crime film of the decade. A stylish, slick, classy and pistol packing crime drama. Director, Michael Mann's best film in years. It stands...( read more) with his crime classics like Heat and Collateral. It's loaded with the flash, cash, class, big stars and all the bullets you could want. A hard-boiled, thrilling, exciting and pulse-pounding old-school action-packed ride. It's a real treat that dazzles and sizzles enough to melt cold steal. It's smart, stunning and wickedly well-crafted. It packs allot of punch and even more fire power. But what truly shines is the star power. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are magnificent, these two powerhouse performers are at their absolute best. Depp gives a sharp, charming, witty and very charismatic performance. Bale gives a swift, compelling, intelligent and very dedicated performance. These two actors deliver some amazing work in this film. A wonderful supporting cast also deliver terrific performances that include Billy Crudup, Jason Clarke and Marion Cotillard. A riveting and very powerful film. This is an exhilarating and heart-pounding film that will keep you on the edge of your seat right to the very end.

This is the kind of movie where much like the film "Capote" you might say, "Well...that wasn't super interesting, but it can be excused because it's history, and history isn't the movies". You might say that, except this movie is so ridiculously historically inaccurate that it b...( read more)egs the question of 'why then was it so uninteresting'. If you're going to move into fairy-tale time we might as well make it cool. Not much happens except some people shoot at each other. It has PG-13ish violence, so there's not even that to hang onto. About all it has is pretty '30's' things and a good cast, although the cast didn't do anything special. These days if is has Johnny Depp in it it "must be good". The best thing offered is Billy Crudup has a creepy fat neck and Marion Cotillard is super hot.

Finally watched this, and wasn't impressed or dissappointed. Not Micheal Mann's best and Depp and Bale were just mediocre through out the entirety of the film. I was entertained and kept watching. Worth checking out.

Meh. Long, mildly interesting but not enjoyable enough and a really bad script with a serious lack of character development! Frustratingly lit too. Amazing costumes, cars, locations but we never get to see them because it's too dark, but I guess that's the point. Interesting use ...( read more)of digital and some good performances - that's about it.
