Baby Done

Baby Done is funny; it's sweet; it means something. Most of all it's charming.

New Zealand pregnancy comedy has language, sex references.

It's pleasant and clearly a platform for fast-rising comic actress Rose Matafeo, but Baby Done adds little to what might be termed the 'pregnancy film' genre.

Just the right amount of bonkers, you won't regret watching Baby Done.

Stars Rose Matafeo (a Kiwi stand-up comedian) and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films) have lovely chemistry as the chalk-and-cheese couple.

Writer Sophie Henderson and director Curtis Vowell - a couple in real life - inject a familiar subject with some Kiwi snark in this drama that mines originality from the story of an unplanned pregnancy.

The overall trajectory of the story and the delivery of Baby, Done wasn't quite the home run I'd been hoping for, but much joy is still very easily found.

Delightful ... former Harry Potter star Lewis never outshines popular stand-up comedian Matafeo, who effortlessly carries the film's dramatic moments as well as its comic ones.

...some of the uneasiest laughs of the year, but they're still here in abundance

Baby Done has the best line readings since Jacinda remarked: "We're just having a bit of an earthquake here, Ryan."
