It's a Wonderful Afterlife

This is a very funny black comedy, and I am surprised to see it had so many negative reviews. A Hindu widow is anxious to get her daughter married off, and takes brutal revenge on the people who are unkind about her, and reject her as a bride. She finds herself being haunted by the indignant spirits of those she has bumped off, who can only move on when she herself dies. But she refuses to go until her daughter has a husband, so the spirits have to help her to get the daughter married off. I think it's absolutely hilarious. Particularly funny I thought is Zoe Wanamaker as Mrs Sehti's Jewish next door neighbour, who when asked where Jews go when they die replies "Willsden - the Jewish cemetery."

Really enjoyable. Don't understand why it's got such a low rating and was billed as the worst British film of its year. It's much better than that.

do not watch this movie with a critical eye. try to stick to the good bits and you'll be touched by the mother's dying wish for her daughter to find true love in a cruel world.

serial-murderer in the form of an overconcerned Londoner Punjabi mom over her daughter's scorned prospects. Hilarious if you're in the mood for such nuttery. The menagerie of ghosts are too funny!

UK Film Council-financed bullshit

Fun movie but lacking the bite of Bend it Like Beckham.

Half a star is the minimum rating I can give. If I could give zero, I would have. Morally corrupt, rarely funny, poorly written. This film has two good points: 1 - the central performance is pretty good 2 - the use of Wonderful Life by Black. Fantastic tune.

British Indian rom-com that feels lightweight as it is low on both the rom and the com.
