What does merit taking seriously is the screen presence of Jovovich -- an action icon easily up there with Keanu Reeves, in some respects her male equivalent.

Monster Hunter is exactly what you think it is going to be, nothing more, and certainly nothing less, and I'm okay with that.

We're left to process a Post-it-sized plot, numbing fight sequences and dialogue along the lines of "My God!" and "Aargh!"

Monster Hunter is so unapologetically itself, it warms your heart.

It's the formless slog you've come to expect from Anderson, and if you're OK with that then Monster Hunter is definitely worth tracking down.

A rip-roaring sci-fi/fantasy adventure that has some serious Western vibes to it as well, Monster Hunter may have some rough edges, but as a whole, it's an enjoyable and high-energy adaptation that delivers up some big-time fun.

Monster Hunter is red meat to any cynical moviegoer of the modern age looking for exhibit A. It's been commodified and globalized to the point of nonidentity.

Anderson stays within his interests as a filmmaker, preferring the creation of eye candy over telling an exciting story.

A film that is all about spectacle. There is no need to ask questions or wonder about certain aspects of the plot: This is another dimension populated with monsters, that's all you need to know. [It] asks you to let every fantastical second wash over you.
