While it was predicatable and incredulous at times, it was still enjoyable. The performances were good, the cinematography was beautiful and the ending was emotionally gratifying. I liked that it did not try to be too grand or overly-ambitious. Just a small story about ordinary people living through some extraordinary times. Well worth the watch.

Wow! This is an amazing, adorable and heartwarming story. Gemma Arterton is a queen and needs to be in more films. And who can say no to a movie filmed against such beautiful scenery?! Summerland isn't for everyone, but it's certainly something to check out if you love cute stories!

    Surprisingly fresh and uplifting!

I get that viewers enjoy this movie while the big name critics hate it. You know what I hate? Jaded movie critics. Too often when I rent a well reviewed film, I am disappointed with a cynical twist (think Where the Crawdads Sing, for instance). What a treat, then, to watch a movie that seduces me with erotic glimpses of love and lust while making me laugh with childhood antics. In the end, I cried because, yes, I love happy endings, which, sadly, seem to be in short supply in today's cinema. If you don't mind feeling good, for a change, you will enjoy Summerland.

Slick simple minded movie designed to get an audience. Not worth the time.

Quite charming evocation of times past but unrealistic in that there was access to beaches on the English Channel and no sign of the barbed wire and pickets on the beaches. I am also wondering why it took the main character thirty years to write her book, given she was a writer. It is not as if lesbianism was unknown in literary circles until the 70's.

Jessica Swales's directorial debut tells a charming and uplifting story through captivating visuals and stellar performances. Summerland is elevated by Gemma Arterton's strong lead, who carried the film with her earnest and quirky nature. Costar Lucas Bond was also phenomenal, and his portrayal of Frank made the character very likable. It's nice to watch a heartwarming film that fills viewers with hope and whose effect lingers after the credits roll.

It's hard to say much about this film without giving away potential spoilers but I really liked it overall. Its not what it initially seems. It was surprisingly poignant, that's all I'll say. There are some twists present and I didn't see them all coming. It's not as 'fluffy' as it may appear - well in one way it is but not in another. I'd recommend this film to anyone unsure about whether to see it, as there's more substance to it than first seems.

An unexpectedly excellent movie. Excellent acting, excellent plot, and an emotional impact that not all films convey. This is a good one.
