Boring. No actual villains or plot. Just all I have to say is boring.

Superman and the mole men are actually the cheesiest movie from 1950s, it looks like something I might see on the show, but that was, until I looked it up and I found out that it's a movie that's just a pilot for the upcoming 50s Superman show

Not among the best in the series.

This was the first theatrical film (as opposed to serial) featuring Superman.. and was made to introduce the characters for the upcoming TV series... Featuring the first appearance of George Reeves as Superman and Phyllis Coates as Lois Lane... Watching this after the serials, I actually prefer the cast of the serials and the more serious sci fi tone of them... Reeves doesn't look as much like Superman as Kirk Alyn did either. This film is rather brief at 58 minutes, which was a relief after all those four hour serials... but the story is rather slight.. though it does at least have a good message to it about not being afraid of people different than you.. or mole men in this case... The mole men are pretty silly looking... little people with really poor fitting bald caps. The movie was later re-edited into two episodes of the first season of the subsequent "Adventures of Superman" TV series that featured the same cast. I'll give this one 2 stars.

Superman And The Mole Men is the type of Superman movie I miss. It feels like an actual story where Superman gets to be Superman, both by fighting something comic book-ish and also being able to stand up for the rights of everyone no matter their appearance. It's very underrated. It's really ahead if it's time as well, a 50's monster movie where the monsters are just misunderstood and the crazy all American town folks are the bad guys, but also showing that Supes will defend them when the aliens retaliate, trying to find a middle ground. That's stuff Marvel wouldn't tackle for a decade, let alone DC. It pretty much represents what Superman should be as a character. You should have that sense that he's there for everyone, no matter the context or what they look like. Movies like Returns and MOS don't get how to convey that feeling.

This was a B-grade Superman film in which an oil drill reaches the realm of radioactive mole men, who come to the surface and creep out the locals in a small town, who set out to kill the little creatures. The mole men costumes are cheesy, but they are certainly creepy in their appearance and movements, and you can understand the menace. Superman takes it upon himself to protect the peaceful creatures so they can return to their land unharmed. The special effects are not bad, but are rather simple. It is a strange premise for the "first full-length feature."

Quite a classic, especially as what is claimed to be the first Superman movie ever.

Superman and the Mole-Men is the first full length Superman movie brought to the theaters, it is a low budget production and was intended to be the pilot for the Superman TV series. The film is short, only 58 minutes long but it does establish George Reeves as the definitive superman for many years at least until Christopher Reeve, and turns him into a national celebrity. Phyllis Coates does a good job as Lois Lane, with some wit. In the movie, Superman and Lane stop by a small rural oil town to do a story on a oil well that is shut down for mysterious circumstances, the drilling had inadvertently opened up a passage for the small furry mole-men to emerge. On the screen is good old fashion US xenophobia as superman protects the mole-men from a mob of angry white gun toting citizens. Great to see that Superman stood for truth justice and the American way, primarily standing against prejudice, and ignorance. He also disarms the misguided, panic driven, xenophobic mob saying "none of you can be trusted with guns so I am going to take them away from you." They could have killed ms. Lane! Would be nice to bring this superman back to our time to disarm the NRA! "its men like you that prevents people from getting to understand each other" superman tells the gun toting mob leader. You go Superman! Given the low budget, this film is still superior to the Snyder directed travesty that tried to pass itself off as a film. I recommend this film and was glad to see that its message about xenophobia and ignorance. It would be nice to see clear social messages in films like this again. Its sad that this message is still needed.

A beautiful criminally underrated masterpiece that's really compelling & showcases Superman at his finest, George Reeves is so Commanding in his role, I never get tired of his problem solving. The town folks let their fear & paranoia overwhelm them after seeing Mole Men they look at as a threat & it's up to Superman to resolve issues & put his skills to the test.

This "film" is camp to the extreme, allergic to subtlety, and worst of all; boring. This film consists of a 20 minute chase scene, 10 minutes of burning someone alive, and 30 minutes of droning exposition. Like a lot of early comic-book media, they give no characterisation, and rely on you already reading the comics. However, unlike other works, this one is trying to portray a character driven narrative. Due to Superman, Lois Lane and Clark Kent being given little to no development, we can't sympathise and encourage them. All the other characters are a not-so-subtle portrayal of the uncaring animals that we are. I would be find with the message of a humans need to destroy anything unfamiliar, if they didn't spell it out for you right at the end. It's not like this film didn't have anything to work with either. Every time an engaging action scene, or a chance to really add some emotion comes about, it cuts away for more crudely delivered dialogue and sexism. The only saving grace are the Mole Men themselves. People often underestimate the power of physical acting, but these creatures are genuinely sympathetic. With a boring plot, boring characters, and boring cinematography, this is one superman film you can skip.
