"The Informer" isn't bad. It's just nothing special.

A solid crime flick whose heart rate never rises to a point commensurate with the many layers of danger its eponymous protagonist faces.

The movie has a surfeit of the sudden reversals and interlocking loyalties that can make for an absorbing time killer.

"The Informer" is like an experiment in whether or not a cool cast can make uninspired material worth watching.

The Informer is confused as to what it should devote its attention to.

“The Informer” nimbly plays within its gritty crime genre, maintaining a propulsive pace that keeps its audience on their toes. It all tangibly plays out within the moral malaise of underworld violence and crooked law enforcement.

The intrigues are breathless and the violence so in your face that it takes a seriously off-key third act to make this one more a mixed bag than it was setting up to be.

…The Informer’s generic title hides a sober, fairly gripping thriller that’s something of an antidote to much of the silver-screen’s childish fare…
