The Mark of Zorro

What a find! I had no idea Langella did a stint as the masked avenger of justice, Zorro! I have never really paid too much attention to the Zorro mythos or anything like that - admittedly, I've never seen the Antonio Banderas films - except for the Disney produced black-and-white TV series here and there, and of course the relation to the Batman character. What I think I loved the most was Langella's brilliant performance as both Don Diego and Zorro...the differentiation he made between the two characters. The "dandy" he is as Diego is truly a character that you would absolutely never believe was Zorro. Zorro himself is so incredibly dashing, cunning, and unbelievably sharp. The best part is that Langella employed a nice little technique where he changed his voice between the two characters - a trait common in the Batman (Kevin Conroy being the first actor to do that very noticeably). I loved it. I loved all the performances, really! The acting was good, which was surprising. But even better was the writing. I really have to hand it to the writers of the teleplay and screenplay, they have "rapier wit" down to a metaphoric perfection. I guess in this case, it'd be a "cutlass wit". Ha. Anyway, the dialog in this movie is genius, and very well done. I could only hope to one day achieve this level of comedic genius (of course, Langella's performance had a heavy hand in that as well). An excellent Zorro film that I thoroughly enjoyed, without having any expectations at all.

wow ummn just seen this movie 4 the 1st time n think that this is a good movie 2 watch...its got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie...i think that ricardo montalban, robert carricart, robert middleton, louise sorel, jorge cervera jr., gilbert roland, anne archer, frank langella, frank sotonoma salsedo play good roles/parts thorughout this movie...i think that the director of this action/adventure/drama movie had done a good job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie,,,,its a good 1970's movie 2 watch n its got a good cast throughout this movie its a good movie 2 watch

This remake of the Tyrone Power version even steals the soundtrack. You might enjoy, if you haven't seen the earlier version, but if you have, its a yawn.

Good film that's about half an hour too short (probably because it needed to fit on TV). Acting is very good - Langella and Montalban are brilliant - and the sword play is not bad. Everything happens too fast overall, but quite a good little film nevertheless. Recommended.

Frank Langella is brilliant and despite the low-budget limitations, this movie gets the job done quite efficiently.

A retread of the 1940's Tyrone Power film, this time with an excellent Frank Langella in the lead role, Montalban is great too as the chief villain, but it is let down somewhat by it's TV-movie budgeting. Still a very enjoyable movie.

Sadly it's weakness is that the story really warrants a big screen treatment over the sadder looking tv movie grade.

A worthwhile remake of a classic story.

Passable TV swashbuckler can't quite live up to its illustrious Zorro predecessors, despite an engaging dual performance from Langella as de la Vega/Zorro and the welcome presence of the ever-dastardly Ricardo Mantalban.
