Isabella Gomez
Isabella Gomez was a Colombian actress who was best known for her role as Elena Alvarez on Netflix's comedy series "One Day at a Time" (Netflix, 2017- ). Born in Medellin, Colombia, Gomez was an ambitious young girl with an insatiable desire to perform. At the age of 5 she convinced her parents to start taking her on acting auditions, and before long she was working as a child actor in Colombia. When she was 10 years old Gomez relocated to the United States with her parents. The family settled in Florida, and it was in the Sunshine State that Gomez's acting career really took off. She started formal acting training while living in Florida, and before long was landing professional work in commercials. During those fledgling years, Gomez truly enjoyed being a professional commercial actress, but she longed to be acting in movies and on television shows. Then in 2014 she landed her first big acting break when she nabbed a recurring role on the action-crime series "Matador" (El Rey, 2014). That show, however, was cancelled after one season. The following year, in 2015, Gomez and her family moved to Los Angeles, so Isabella could audition for TV roles on more of a regular basis. She nabbed a guest spot on a 2016 episode of "Modern Family" (ABC, 2009- ), but nothing else between 2015 and 2016. 2017, however, would prove to be a much better year for Gomez. In 2017 she joined the cast of the Netflix comedy series "One Day at a Time." The series, which was based on the Norman Lear sitcom of the same name, also starred Justina Machado and Academy Award winner Rita Moreno. In March of 2018 Netflix announced that a third season of "One Day at a Time" had been ordered, with Gomez retaining her role as Elena Alvarez.
