Kali Uchis

Singer-songwriter Kali Uchis was born Karly-Marina Loaiza on July 17, 1994 in Alexandria, Virginia. Her mother was from Virginia and her father was from Pereira, Colombia. In her teenage years, her father moved back to Colombia and she would spend her summers with him there. Shortly after graduating high school in Alexandria, Uchis released her first mixtape "Drunken Babble" (2012) by uploading it to a free-download platform. It garnered enough attention that, by 2014, she had a collaboration with Snoop Dogg with the song "On Edge". Her first EP "Por Vida" was made available for free download on her official website in 2015. These successes opened opportunities for further collaborations and Uchis spent much of 2017-2018 touring and performing with other artists. Notably, the song "Get You" (2016), created with Canadian singer Daniel Caesar, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance. Kali Uchis released her debut studio album "Isolation" in 2018 and received high critical acclaim. Canadian producer Kaytranada featured her on the hit single "10%" (2019) which won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. Uchis created and released the EP "To Feel Alive" (2020) entirely during the isolation of the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her first predominantly Spanish album, "Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios)" was also released in 2020. It's popularity peaked in 2021 when it's third single "telepatía" went viral in a TikTok lip sync challenge. Kali Uchis third studio album "Red Moon in Venus" was released on March 3, 2023.
